A brave young boy who was born the son of a scribe, but has the heart of a warrior. Very intelligent and observant.
In the Books[]
His parents are killed by the flux disease that wipes out half of Trev Hael. He is only eight when he is sent to live with his uncle and horrible aunt, along with his older brother (Neb). The aunt and uncle are killed by Horsekin raiders and Neb and Clae manage to escape with the help of Wildfolk. They run into Salamander, who takes them to the new dun of the Red Wolf clan. There, Gerran notices Clae's eagerness to learn to fight and takes him on as a page after asking Neb's permission.
Clae thrives as a page. When visiting Cengarn with the Red Wolf clan, Clae is the only one to notice a certain groom (Rladd) who leaves the dun with two horses and his saddle bags after Salamandar comes in with word that Honleg is a traitor. Clae is brave enough to inform Gerran, thus the war council is warned that Honleg will not be caught unawares.
At the end of the Gold Falcon Clae agrees to be Lord Gerran's personal page after Gerran is granted Honleg's old dun and turned into a lord.
Family and relationships[]
Younger brother to Neb and page to Lord Gerran of the Gold Falcon. His parents and younger sister are killed by the plague/flux in Trev Hael. His uncle is killed by Horsekin raiders and presumably his mean aunt is taken as a slave in the same raid.
