The Dragon Revenant, also known as Dragonspell in the UK, is the fourth book in the Deverry Cycle and the last book in Act One: Deverry.

Publication History[]

The Dragon Revenant was first published by Doubleday in hardcover format in May 1990. Bantam Spectra published the mass market paperback in April 1991. Bantam released a Kindle format e-book in December 2009.

Tantor Audio published an unabridged audiobook narrated by Ruth Urquhart in September 2018.

Plot[]

With Rhodry now a mindwiped slave in Bardek, Jill, along with Rhodry’s half-brother Salamander travel to Bardek to rescue him, where they are later joined by Nevyn. Salamander begins teaching Jill dweomer, and she becomes Nevyn’s apprentice when she returns to Deverry. Rhodry becomes the Gwerbret of Aberwyn, partially fulfilling a prophetic omen.

Eldidd 1064 Lovyan throws a funeral for Rhys, and Rhodry's illegitimate daughter, Rhodda, is targeted by dark magic. Toledo, the Old One, scries and plots Nevyn's death.

Bardek, Autumn 1064 Wiped of memories, Rhodry is sold as a slave in Bardek from owner to owner, eventually joining the household of the widow Alaena, who takes a romantic liking to him. Jill and Salamander, in the guise of a traveling magician and assistant, rove the continent with the intent of buying Rhodry back. Rhodry regains his memories of Jill and they are reunited, with Alaena giving up her slave to avoid the scandal of sleeping with him.
